Improvising Miyazaki – 6 weeks course

Saturdays from 10:00-12:00 (CET) – with Gael

powered by The Improv Place

The 6-weeks online course with Gael Doorneweerd-Perry from Flock Theatre on the topic of improvising in the genre of Hayao Miyazaki is coming back for a third edition in Spring 2021!

I am truly excited to teach this online course again after the success of the first editions, as Hayao Miyazaki’s movies are some of my favorite, and as improvising in this genre is something I have been exploring a lot in the last few years.

The classes will happen online and will be a combination of exercises, discussions, analysis of clips, and more. The goal of the course is to give tools in order to perform in the genre on stage (offline).
It is built around practicing skills in exercises, discussing the movies and their application on stage, and sharing with the group how we experience the worlds we create. It will not focus on online scenework.

Every Saturday morning from Apr 17 to May 22, from 10:00 to 12:00 (CET).
Course powered by The Improv Place.

These courses will be held on Zoom (latest update on desktop + headset) and assignments are part of the course.

The power of comics and graphic novels

Saturdays from 20:00 to 22:00 (CET) – with Gael

powered by Improv College

Comic books are these weird objects with a bunch of pictures, simple characters, and probably super-heroes in tights. But are they only? As improvisers, we can learn a whole lot from the way graphic novels are written, designed and created, so let’s explore the 9th art in more depth!

In this 3-weeks online course we will learn from the history and the creation of comic books. We will explore the narrative tools created by comics authors, why characters in comics are so compelling and the different strategies we can apply to improvisation. The classes will entail discussions, analysis, study, exploration, and cover a range of exercises. I’m excited to discover and dive deep in the worlds of comics to learn new tools we can use in our improv!

Every Saturday from Apr 3 to Apr 24, from 20:00 to 22:00 (CET).
Course powered by Improv College.
Over Zoom (latest update of the software on desktop) + headset
