This two day workshop with Paper Street Theatre’s Dave Morris and Missie Peters will teach you how to use language to elevate your stories. The first day will be spent exploring poetic techniques such as finding and building metaphors, playing with language and layering meaning. You will learn to find the beauty in the moment and give your scenes and stories more weight.
The second day will take those poetic techniques and apply them to storytelling, and genre in the Paper Street Theatre approach to improvisation: Improv that feels like theatre. Paper Street’s unique approach to genre, focuses on technique and skill, NOT on rules and structure. You’ll learn a few new genre techniques, but also how to approach genre-work in a way that honours the mood, feel, and narrative of any style while staying true to the principles of improvisation.

Paper Street Theatre
Paper Street Theatre co. creates improvisation that feels like theatre. By studying great playwrights and theatrical styles, then performing them without a script, our ensemble sets out to change what people often perceive improvisation to be. Some of what we do may be comedy, but first and foremost, it will be theatre.
