One day, the stars aligned and a hero was born. On their inevitable quest, they will face monsters, witches and treasure hunters – friends and enemies, hopefully with the knowledge of which is which. It’s an old tale – and yet it’s different every time.
The Myth is a format by Jenny Hasenack that brings the style of old stories to the improv stage. Myths, local legends or fairytales – whichever speaks to you, you can use as your inspiration.
We will focus on how to play the Hero’s Journey without getting in your head about it, how to easily create a mythical atmosphere and how you convincingly play a group of hungry trolls.
The Myth was played by and at several groups throughout the Netherlands, like easylaughs, Tartrek and at the IMPRO Amsterdam festival.
“I highly recommend it! You will learn and use a lot of skills: storytelling, raising stakes, crazy similar/simultaneous characters, connection and problem creating and solving without thinking ahead.” – Marieke van Laar
After performing The Myth a lot of people came up to me to tell me I did stuff they’ve never seen me do on stage before” – Sytse Wilman
“The format is wonderful because it gives you a structure to hold on to, and at the same time, it lets you create the scene in the moment. I loved it!” – Wilma Geldof
