The Space Between – Liam & Jennifer

We often think of our brains as existing in two states: on (awake) and off (asleep), but there is a third state that exists between these two… A kind of dreamy twilight where the waking world blurs with our subconscious as our brains power down and process everything they’ve taken in. Time expands and contracts, colours shift and change, and patterns are broken.

Taking inspiration from this state, we are going to spend five days exploring what it means to use dream-logic to unlock associative, non-narrative improvisation. Looking at scenes as vignettes without start of finish, edits which bend and blend with the show around them, and using improv and different media overlayed to create experiences which satisfy audiences and encourage them to activate their imagination, without the need for a story which resolves.

Over the five days we will explore a whole manner of different tools and techniques to create different feelings and experiences in the audience, before putting together a showcase to explore these ideas with an audience.

This workshop will be taught in turn by Liam Webber and Jennifer Jordan, and will result in a performance during the Flock Festival 2026 (Friday 26th of June).
