The audience is already seeing it: a banana peel thrown on the ground, a lover in the closet, a hidden bomb in a drawer…
When the public knows something that one of the characters on stage ignores, it’s extremely entertaining. The “dramatic irony” is the way improvisers play with this gap between what some know and others don’t.
Sometimes, dramatic irony presents itself without us having planned it in a scene, but it is also possible to implement it intentionally to enhance the performance.
This workshop offers a series of very simple techniques to establish dramatic irony on stage: something the audience absolutely loves to watch.

Maïder Dechamps has been improvising for over twenty years and she is regularly invited abroad to play and teach. She is part of the Ligue d’improvisation Professionelle Wallonie-Bruxelles, La Compagnie qui Pétille (art. dir. Peggy Pexy Green), Babel Games (art. dir. Laurie Andrieu), The Dark Age of Love (art. dir. Billy Kissa), etc.
She is currently co-creating several improv plays, including “WAW – Without Any Words,” a silent improvised show featuring Jérémie Vanhoof and Anne-Claire Van Oudenhove.
