Lighten up your dramatic improv

How to make your serious scene, not a paaaaainfully awkward scene? Is the answer… A punchline? 

Don’t worry. In this course, we will work on playing scenes about non-silly topics that are a joy to watch. Wouldn’t it be nice to make the audience lean forward as you are playing a breakup scene? Or make them gasp and applaud for you escaping a kidnapper?

At Flock Theatre, we have a long history of producing shows that hit everything from hilarious Molière to dramatic Polar Nights. We believe that anything serious also needs liveliness. And that the player having fun is essential, always.

You will expand your improv skills with acting that feels convincing and easy to watch. You also will develop a director’s eye for knowing when to keep tension and when to break it.

In this course, I will take a light-hearted approach to serious scenes. I will share tools and techniques to lighten up the scene that is intended to hit a more serious tone. 

Is that possible? Yes. It. Is.

It is even fun.

This course is designed for experienced players with a few or many years of experience in practicing and performing long-form improv, De Vloer Op or other scene-based formats.
