Characters & Variety

What is a better way to kick off your weekend than by playing and creating beautiful unscripted theatre?

This course is for intermediate students who are ready to hone their scenework skills and apply them in a format called Slacker.

The Slacker format is the daisy chain of characters, where at least one character from a previous scene has to be present in the following scene; where no one and everyone is a protagonist.

In this course, we will work more on the skills of listening – becoming very attuned to your scene partners to not miss when gold wants to emerge (whether it is body language, an interesting sound, or a verbal offer), but also not missing our own gold.

We will work on creating rich, interesting characters – the core pillar of this format – and how to play with characters’ peculiarities, how to discover different sides to them in different dynamics.

The third pillar of this course is variety within a show. The secret to an engaging (longform) show is to present the audience with a rich menu of experiences: heartfelt emotional scenes, comedy for the brain, comedy for the belly (pure silliness).

Mash will guide you during some of your scenes as well for an extra boost to your improv growth.

Start off your weekend with play, join this course on Saturday morning!
