A lot of improv comedy is based on patterns. Someone does something, it is repeated, and again—until the pattern is broken, we are caught off-guard and it’s somehow hilarious. But how do performers understand each other so well that they can communicate on the same wavelength?
In this course, we will hone our skills in spotting potential patterns, copying them and contrasting them. We’ll explore playful moments in scenes where the story pauses, and together, we’ll dive into a ‘game,’ following it down a magical rabbit hole of collective discovery. We will sharpen our listening to detect any detail that inspires us and pull that thread together.
This course is inspired by more than a decade of playing two best-seller shows (Just Play and the Fraltons) both built around pattern-based comedy. Gael will share with you the tools and techniques that make these shows possible.
