We are all clowns. We all think we are beautiful, clever, and strong. While actually, we all have our weaknesses, our ridiculous side. The side that can make people laugh when we allow it to express itself.
The study of the clown is a very personal journey and you will have to experience it yourself to understand its essence. It’s an engaging tutorial.
In the first place, we discover ourselves and what ‘being you’ entails. The clown easily brings out the idiosyncrasy of each individual. In addition, the clown only exists under the gaze of others (the public). You don’t play a clown in front of the audience, a clown plays with the audience. It is like playing in front of a large mirror, which sometimes reflects you mercilessly. Although everything is an obstacle for the clown, the clown does not need conflict. In fact, the clown is out of balance constantly and that’s their major challenge!
In this course we will investigate the exact moment when the clown character appears to an audience, we will explore the world of the ‘nonsense’ and we will learn how to become more truthful.
The teacher of this course is Joscha. Joscha is a very experienced clown, and clown trainer. She works for 20 years at CliniClowns and has an esteemed clown- and theatre workshop in Haarlem. In her teaching, she uses Teacher-in-role, where the teacher can play the role of leader, player, or support. Joscha comes highly recommended by many improvisers with clowning experience, and we are excited to have her join us for a guest course.
