Audition The Matrix

The next production of Flock Theatre will be ‘The Matrix’ directed by Laura. We will hold auditions for actors, musicians and A.I. crew on 4 separate time slots in June. Pick the one that fits you!

About this production

The production ‘The Matrix’ will be an improvised theatre show in a cyberpunk genre, incorporating live music and artificial intelligence.

The show takes on inspiration from The Matrix Trilogy by the Wachowski sisters, especially the 1999 movie The Matrix. The production will include action sequences (fights! chases! exploding elevators!), the search for identity, and the tension between AI and humanity.

For this production, we are looking for 4-5 actors, 1-2 musicians, and 1-2 A.I. crew members.

The actors will improvise the scenes on stage, the musician(s) will improvise the music for the play and the A.I. crew member(s) will give input from their A.I. tool live on stage. These 3 groups of players plus the techs will inspire each other, listen to each other, and build on each other’s ideas to bring the show The Matrix to life.

About Flock Theatre Productions

Flock Theatre productions are shows where Laura & Gael cast players for a weekend of shows in a particular genre. The cast will rehearse for approx. 3 months on Wednesday mornings, led by the director (Laura).

The Flock Theatre style of shows is theatrical. We love making theatrical improv that makes audiences feel something. We commit to the work and find joy in geeking about this art form.

Previous productions included Transperceneige, The True North, I Will Survive, Operations. Relations. Complications. and Skin Hunger.

What will happen in the audition?

In this audition, participants are invited to join the exercises and scene setups that the director (Laura) will offer. No need to prepare, just show up (on time :)).

Actors will be given scenes to improvise, musicians will be invited to score scenes, and A.I. crew will be asked to give input in text, image or otherwise.

Our auditions are intended to be a pleasant experience (and participants agree), where you actually learn something, get to know Flock Theatre and have a good time.

Within a few days after the last audition, the performers who got selected will get an invitation. Once accepted, the other improvisers from the audition will be informed as well.

The auditions will take place in the Flock Treehouse, which we can make wheelchair-accessible by adding a ramp. ♿ Just let us know, as well as any other accessibility needs you might have.

Who can audition?

For the actors: anyone with some experience in improvising or acting.

For the musicians: anyone who knows their instrument well. Makers of electronic music are especially invited.

For the A.I. crew: anyone with plenty experience and skill in any A.I. tool (e.g. ChatGPT, Dall-E 2, Jasper, etc.)

We love meeting new faces, unexpected talents, and a diversity of players. 👩🏾‍🦱👩‍🦽🧕🏽🌈👳🏻‍♂️🦾🦻🧠🤶 (Yes, we have cast players that we met at the audition for the first time.)

Once cast, all performers are asked to do research, homework and/or promotion of the show. This will take max. 0,5-1 hour a week, and is usually considered fun to do. If you take part in the audition, you agree that -when cast- you will make time for this.

This is our main production of fall 2023 and we expect a professional attitude from our performers in things like punctuality, communication, and commitment to the work.

Does it cost anything?

Taking part in the audition is free of charge. And as this is not a course but a production, there is no course fee involved.
