When theatre geek Gael met with photography geek Wesley
Did you see the (absolutely gorgeous) visuals for Polar Nights? The director Gael made them using an old-school technique called cyanotype printing.
That means: no digital processing. The photo shoot, the development, all of it was manual. (A very uncommon practice these days for posters)
To be able to develop it, Gael went to a dark room run by a guy named Thor (no kidding).
He also collaborated with photographer Wesley Verhoeve, who wrote a fascinating feature about it in his popular photography newsletter. You can read it here.
The results are hand-made, beautifully imperfect (look at them up close) and they mirror the actual historical pictures of that time.
With these visuals, we want you to feel a sense of the time of polar exploration. A time of adventure, hard work, and doing something for the pure love of it.
